Races start in grade groups about a second apart — whites at the front, superstars at the back. Grades update for the first meeting of each month from national points, averages and race wins.
Maximum two grades per period. A white or yellow who wins a final is promoted automatically for the very next meeting.

Past achievement sets a floor — an ex-World Champion's minimum is blue, and losing a major title means minimum blue for three seasons.
